We spend a lot of time on Choupique Bayou in Southwest Louisiana. We had been seeing a half-sunken kayak find its way down the bayou, so one day we decided to see if we could get it out. It had a major hole in the keel, the seat was broken, the drain plug was missing, and all the hardware was broken. It was pretty bad off. We were able to tow it out. In its condition, it was effectively just plastic junk on the bayou, and considering how many places we'd seen it, there's no telling where it started its journey. It looked to have been abandoned a long time ago. I was able to make a solid repair on the keel hole, outfitted it with a new seat, hardware, plug, and bungee storage. I put some scupper plugs in, took it for a test paddle, and it was great! We put some new decals on it and it's now my son's paddle craft. It's a legitimate salvage.
