국내 코로나19 확진자의 절반은 2040…전연령층서 20대 '최다'

As you said, it's been almost two months since the fourth wave of infections began... and South Korea has been reporting a high number of new cases every day ever since.
Let's talk about the demographics of the people getting infected.
And - you might say surprisingly - it's mostly younger people getting the virus.

That's right, Mark... almost half of the COVID-19 cases in South Korea over the past week were young adults or the middle-aged.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters Thursday, people between 20 to 49 made up more than 49 percent of new infections over the past week.
Infection rates among adults in that age group have been steadily rising since early August.
People in their 20s made up most of the new cases last week, accounting for 19 percent of them.
However, officials noted that younger people are far less likely to get seriously ill or die from the virus.
Also, keep in mind, the age group of 18 to 49 started getting their vaccines on Thursday, so as more are inoculated in the age group, hopefully the spread curbs with them.
