I stayed at The Unicorn Hotel in Gunthorpe, Nottinghamshire for 2 nights in August 2021, there were two of us in a double room, which cost £112.
Upon arrival it was good to see that there is a large car park at the rear of the hotel. Check-in was very quick and easy, this was done at the end of the bar, which doubled up as reception. Our room was on the first floor, which was only accessible via stairs (no lift / elevator). There was also a security door code to access the bedrooms.
We stayed in room six, which overlooked the River trent. The room was large and had a very generous king-sized bed as well as a sofa, wardrobe, television, drawers, tea and coffee making facilities, vanity area with mirror and hairdryer, bedside tables. The room was overall decent although there were signs of wear and tear and only one side of the bed had a usable plug socket.
The bathroom was compact but featured a heated towel rail, toilet, sink and shower cubicle, it was decent enough although a little dated.
Overall I had a pleasant enough time at this hotel and exploring the surrounding area, but in all honesty, it felt a little quiet and isolated in the evening, and if I were to visit there are again, I would probably try and stay in nearby Newark-on-Trent.
