Live emergency briefing on the latest from the Hurricane Hunter aircraft who have measured a minimum pressure down to 932 mb. This suggests Hurricane Sam continues to intensify and is even nearing rare category 5 strength! This would be incredible considering it's location in the open Atlantic well north of the Lesser Antilles. It appears that Sam is attempting to choke off the constricting inner eye and undergo an eye wall replacement cycle, which would level off the intensification trend for now. NHC mentions it is very possible for Sam to reach category 5 over the next few days. Right now, max sustained winds are still estimated at 150 mph.
