Piers Morgan’s next steps after Ofcom victory will be ‘absolutely fascinating’

The Australian Financial Review’s Senior Correspondent Aaron Patrick says it will be “absolutely fascinating” to see what happens next for broadcaster Piers Morgan after his victory over the Duchess of Sussex.

UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom released a 97-page report, ultimately clearing Piers Morgan and the network ITV, after a record 58,000 complaints were received about Mr Morgan’s criticism of Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain.

“It’s a really important ruling by broadcasting regulator in the UK that you wouldn’t normally think would be a bastion of advocacy of free speech,” Mr Patrick told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“In these times of the culture wars, and a very, very poisoned debate about privilege and race, Piers Morgan has been unashamedly a person of the old school who says: ‘we can get up and debate these issues’.

“He’s had a win at a considerable cost to him in the medium-term.”
