One of the nation's largest employers, Walmart, is giving over 565,000 workers a raise, thanks to their hard work and dedication over the course of the past 19 months.
According to President and CEO John Furner: “starting on September 25, associates working in the retailer's front end of the store, food and general merchandise units will get at least a dollar an hour increase.”
He continued: "Over the past year, we've raised pay for approximately 1.2 million hourly associates in our U.S. stores, increasing our U.S. average hourly wage to $16.40."
With Walmart's current average pay for all employees at $15.25 an hour, your neighborhood superstore could be the perfect tool to help you leave unemployment for a new full-time job.
Meanwhile, the official August jobs report was released earlier today by our pals over at the Labor Department, and financial experts were disappointed with the numbers.
The US economy added just 235,000 positions, which is far lower than predictions from fiscal analysts at the DOW Jones who expected 720,000 jobs added.
But there is good news, as the unemployment rate fell to 5.2%, which was in line with estimates from the experts.
President Biden commented on the jobs report earlier today and how it’s vital that his $3.5 trillion stimulus bill gets passed: “Our country needs these investments. I’m not asking for anything other than some fairness being injected into the system.”
With the new stimulus proposal set to add hundreds of thousands of new jobs for employees across America, I agree with the President that we still need more stimulus funds, including the long awaited infrastructure disaster relief package and federal extended enhanced unemployment benefits.
Finally, it’s looking like this weekend could the last time that millions of struggling Americans are able to claim unemployment benefits and extended enhanced PUA funds.
According to CNET: “By Sept. 6, roughly 7.5 million will lose benefits entirely, affecting more than 11 million people.”
Some of the popular unemployment programs that are set to expire for most Americans on September 4th or 5th include: Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, and Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation.
I’m so sorry for everyone out there that is set to lose these vital federal extended enhanced unemployment benefits, and hopefully our lawmakers can come up with another fiscal support system to help millions of Americans in times of need.
If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, get a headstart on the weekend and apply today.
This could be the last weekend to check out your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your employment history and identifying documents, and fill out the application as genuinely as possible and to the best of your abilities.
For honestly and truthfully answering all their questions, you could receive a backdated unemployment check for over $20,000.
To all of the gig-workers, self employed, independent contractors, 1099 workers, even side hustlers, volunteers and freelancers, the PUA is still available to help you get these amazing government disaster relief funds that you deserve.
