It's Labor day weekend 2021 and USDA Forest lands are closed because of the fires running rampant here in the state of California. Fortunately, BLM land deserts are still open. It's a last minute decision to head over to Anza Borrego. Going me on this adventure is @Johnpatalinghug (instagram) in his 2nd gen Acura MDX and his friends Alex and Theda in their Jeep Gladiator JT Mojave. They both have not seen the beauty of Fish Creek, so I was excited to show them around.
I have never ventured out much farther than the wind caves, so as we go deeper into the Fish Creek Wash we come across rougher terrain and the Diablo Drop off. We have a lot of motivation to make it up this climb, because it leads us closer to the mudcaves and takes us closer to our campsite. This sounds a lot better than having to drive all the way back from where we entered and drive all the way around.
So do we make it? You're going to have to watch to find out!
Disclaimer: Deserts can become a very hot place. In this episode I suffer from heat exhaustion. It's 104F out, and I didn't realize that my body is was not excreting sweat. Make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids and make sure to bring an abundant amount of water. Stay safe!
**PLEASE NOTE: I've heard that Diablo Drop Off was recently closed to uphill traffic. I did not see any signs about this, and I tried searching the internet to no avail. I could not confirm this.
