Dramatic footage captured by an ocean drone shows what it is like to be inside a Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. US scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration piloted a camera-equipped ocean drone directly into Hurricane Sam on September 30, 2021. The drone battled 15 metre (50ft) high waves and winds of over 193km/h (120mph). According to its developer, the autonomous vehicle is specifically designed to withstand harsh conditions and record various measurements for scientific research.
