Govt defends FCRA act amendments in SC; Foreign money for Netas, not NGOs? | The Urban Debate

In this episode of The Urban Debate, with Tanvi Shukla, we discuss the FCRA act amendments. The Centre on Thursday told the Supreme Court that it recognises the role of non-profit and voluntary organizations in national development and genuine NGOs need not shy away from any regulatory compliance mandated under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. The Central govt also submitted an affidavit in SC in response to petitions challenging Constitutional validity of amendments. In the affidavit filed, the govt said there exists no right to seek foreign contributions by NGOs and voluntary organizations without regulation. A bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar would hear the matter on October 28.
