Russia is now in a position to hold Western Europe ‘hostage’ over gas supplies

Sky News host James Morrow says Western Europe’s heavy reliance on Russian gas exports means Russia is now in a position to hold the region “hostage”.

It comes following reports as many as 90,000 Russian troops have gathered on the Ukrainian border at the same time as the Russian state-owned energy giant Gazprom has slashed gas supplies into Western Europe.

“China and Russia have been working very closely together on military exercises lately, they see America as very weak,” Mr Morrow told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“America cannot handle two crises at once. If China was to make a Pearl Harbor-style attack while Russia provoked a crisis in Europe it would be an incredibly dangerous moment and America wouldn’t be able to respond to it.”
