Overseas Students Australia Sam Sharma says many of the students his organisation speaks to are “still keen” to come to Australia to study once international borders reopen.
Fully vaccinated eligible visa holders will be allowed to travel to Australia without having a travel exemption, allowing international travellers like international students back into the country.
“It’s big news for international students, they’ve been stuck overseas for more than 20 months now, and it’s not only good for students as well as it’s good for the Australian economy,” Mr Sharma told Sky News Australia.
He said bringing international students in would support thousands of jobs by filling in open positions and bring billions of dollars to the economy.
Mr Sharma also said there will be some students who will “definitely” be taking the route of looking at other countries and opportunities for places to study instead of Australia.
“But I think Australia does have its own unique educational structure.”
