Oklahoma Republican Proposes Insane Legislation To Let Parents Ban Books And Fire Librarians

A Republican state lawmaker in Oklahoma has proposed one of the most expansive anti-education pieces of legislation so far this year. His legislation would allow ANY parent to have ANY book removed from an Oklahoma school (just one complaint is all it takes) and then have the librarian fired if the book isn't removed after 30 days. The parent could also be eligible for up to $10,000 PER DAY that the book remains on the shelf. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins talks about how insane this proposal is.

A Republican state Senator from Oklahoma has introduced one of the most backwards anti-education bills that we have seen this entire year and we have seen a plethora of them, folks. You know, these right-wingers trying to ban these books from their public school libraries that most of them didn't even have the books in their public school libraries. And the kids say, we have no problem with this. You parents need to relax a little bit. But nope. And now in Oklahoma, Republican state Senator Rob Standridge has introduced, it is Senate bill 1142 and this says if just one parent, one, objects to a book, it must be removed within 30 days. If it is not, the librarian must be fired and cannot work for any public school for two years. Parents can also collect at least $10,000 per day from school districts if the book is not removed as requested. So you get to have somebody fired, you can get $10,000 per day from an already underfunded public school and the book immediately gets removed if one single individual complaints about it.

Now this bill is just proposed. It has not passed. I doubt it will pass because this is insane. But if it does get passed, maybe it's time to use it against them. Maybe it's time to show them how ridiculous they're legislation is. Maybe one single parent could complain, I don't want you to have the Bible in that school. I don't like that book. I'm complaining, remove it and also where's my money. Oh, I don't want them to learn, you know, Atlas Shrugged. I find that book offensive, pay up, get the book out there, give me my money. Oh, it could be used for all sorts of things, folks, because if they're gonna play this game, then it's time for us to start playing the game as well. We can't just sit back and just complain about it and say, oh wow, these people are crazy. No. Sometimes you gotta get down and dirty and you gotta fight their fight. So if this bill passes, I would encourage everybody watching this that lives in Oklahoma and has a kid going to a public school there, start writing down the names of books.

Hell, you may get rich in the process too, right? Although I would certainly advise against that because again, our public school system is already underfunded. Let's not screw them out of money and I certainly don't want any librarians to be fired. But what I do want is for these idiot conservatives to learn that things go both ways sometimes. And if you want to take out books that kids actually aren't even objecting to, that might expose them to different experiences that other human beings have had throughout their lives, which is what these books detail. Then we're gonna do the same thing. We're gonna remove your conservative propaganda. We're gonna remove your libertarian propaganda. We're gonna remove all of the white washing of American history that you've been working on for far too long. We will fight back on this. If this bill becomes a law, brace yourselves conservatives, because there's a hell of a lot more books on your side than there are on the left that we'll be complaining about very soon.
