There is a ‘universal push’ to ensure Putin pays for 'war crimes' in Ukraine

Sky News host Chris Smith says there seems to be a “universal push” to ensure Russian President Vladimir Putin pays for his "war crimes" in Ukraine.

This comes as former United Nations chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte overnight “went public to call for an international arrest warrant to be issued for the Russian President right now”.

Mr Smith said among the crimes she identified in Ukraine were “attacks on civilians, the destruction of civilian buildings and even the demolition of entire villages”.

“What makes a prosecution against Putin easier in this case than the work Del Ponte did previously is that the country itself had requested an international probe, and already the current ICC chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, has visited Ukraine on a fact-finding mission," he said.

“Invading sovereign nations for the purpose of extending power will never ever be tolerated, and Putin needs to go down for his crimes.”
