Ukraine war: Russian retreat of troops 'slow but noticeable' in north of country, says Zelensky

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russian forces were leaving behind "a catastrophic situation" as they retreat from the north, including towns just outside Kyiv.

He warned residents to beware of more Russian shelling and land mines.

"They are mining the entire territory, houses, hardware, even the bodies of those killed. There are so many tripwires and other dangers," he said in his nighttime video address to the nation in the early hours of Saturday.

He urged residents to wait to resume their normal lives until they are assured that the mines have been cleared and the danger of shelling has passed.
