Winds reach almost 100 miles per hour during storm Arwen in the UK. In Northern England, the Midlands and Scotland, a cold snap is expected until Monday. Britain felt the full force of storm Arwen, with gusts of nearly 100 miles per hour hitting parts of the country, killing one person, damaging buildings and blowing trees away in a violent wind. While the red weather warnings expired early Saturday morning, the forecaster said the yellow and yellow wind warnings remained in effect, with the anticipation of "very strong gusts of wind" in many areas. People were still advised to travel only when absolutely necessary, and the meteorological office described the night gusts as "devastating" and affecting the "wide swath of the United Kingdom."
