It was all tears at the Mt Olivet Methodist Chapel, Dansoman on Friday, October 29, 2021 as family and Church members of the late Very Rev Alex Aidoo and his spouse, Mrs Helena Aidoo congregated to pay their last respect to the deceased couple.
The Very Rev and Mrs Aidoo passed away within a period of four days following separate short illnesses the couple suffered.
“We were hit hardest when mum, who was rather caring for dad together with two of us felt a bit under the weather and passed away to our utmost dismay on Saturday, 4th September, 2021”, the children of the deceased couple said in a tribute.
“We were broken, yet hoped in the Lord for dad’s speedy recovery as we pretended all was well every time we visited him [dad] after the demise of our mother”, they further narrated amidst tears, adding “He appeared to be recovering only for us to be hit again, on Tuesday, 7th September, 2021 with news of his demise”.
Until their demise, the couple were stationed at the Foso Circuit in the Foso Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, where Very Rev Aidoo served as the Superintendent Minister.
In a tribute read by the General Director for Ministries of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Very Rev Dr William Mpere-Gyekye, the Church described the late Minister as “A hard working servant of God, truly humble and patient”. The Methodist Ministers’ Spouses Association, which the late Mrs Aidoo was a member of, described her as a woman of “Few words who possessed exceptional knowledge and good counsel”.
Delivering a sermon at the solemn Burial Service which was attended by the hierarchy of the Church and sympathizers across the connexion, the Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo noted that “In the midst of all changes, we look up to the Lord of all comforts”, adding, “Those who serve God are not immune from storms…and despite our troubles and challenges, we must go back to God”.
The deceased couple were married for 32years and survived by three adult children and two grandchildren.
